Thunder Startled me Last Night

I got startled many times by the loud thunder last night. My hubby asked me why I was freaked out by the loud noises and that I should have been prepared for them because they were always preceded by a flash of lightening. He thought that I should not have been startled when the bang came. He said that the brighter the flash, the bigger and sooner the bang. Eh, how should I know, I was trying to get some sleep, my eyes were closed. The somewhat annoying part was that, every time I jumped, he laughed.
